5 on Friday!

Linking up with these sweet girls today to share my Friday randoms!

I need to build an ark. The rain we have received this week alone makes me think that I should master my construction skills and go ahead and start gathering the animals. While I love a good rainy day (like this morning), I prefer when they occur on my day off and I can lounge in my bed all day.

We're getting a new refrigerator! The current one has been in our kitchen for about 20 years. The shelves on the doors are broken, the ice maker leaks pools of water all over the floor, and the light in the fridge hasn't worked in years. Mama and I picked out a new one (according to Dad's specifications: no stainless steel, no side by side, no freezer on the bottom...) and it will be delivered today! It's the little things in life, right?

I bought my Dad and I matching shorts. He doesn't know it yet, but I am positive there will be a day when we "accidentally" wear them at the same time. Fitz Short can be found here, and the Callahan Short can be found here.

I had the perfect Saturday night last week. My family was at a party when I got home from work, so I picked up Chipotle for dinner, grabbed my iPad & laptop and set up shop on my deck. The weather was perfect, the dog was lying at my feet, and I sat outside for a good two hours before the bugs got to me and I had to go inside. Sometimes I think living along would be wonderful (and then I think of being alone every night and not being able to ever watch SVU or PLL again...)

I can't seem to get through any books. Seriously, I've been reading Andy Cohen's book for over a month. Guys, it is only 239 pages long! Maybe I'm the world's slowest reader, but I am in desperate need of some quick reads when I finally finish this book! I have a few books to start thanks to Crystal's book swap, but hopefully I'll get through those pretty quickly!

What is random with you on this gloomy Friday?

June Cara Box!

Cara Box

This month I participated in my first Cara Box, hosted by Kaitlyn at Wifessionals. Each month there is an assigned theme. You get matched up with another blogger or non-blogger and send each other some fun stuff! To read more about it (or sign up for the next month), check it out here!

I received a box from Kristina! This month's theme was "A Day at the Fair" and she sent me TONS of adorable things that one would find at a fair or carnival! I was so excited to see everything, but even more excited to get to know Kristina better!

Here's what she sent;
All wrapped up, ready for the fair!

An adorable stuffed elephant, and matching necklace, some wonderful country fair recipes (can't wait to try the fried bacon!), some cotton candy (that I already ate.. oops), A Night Circus, and a balloon animal that didn't quite make it out alive (major props for trying!!!)

What was your favorite item in your Cara Box?
The theme for July is "nautical" and we all know that is one of my favorites!

With today marking the first day of summer, it's time to gather all of the things that make the season so fabulous.

Bright, light, and easy Lilly dresses. LOTS of sunscreen. Hair bands to keep flyaways under control. Tervis Tumbler water bottle. Frizz Ease serum to keep that frizz in check. Fun, flirty bathing suits. Rainbow Sandals.

What is on your "must have" list for sumer?

A Temporary Statement

Since my current obsession is figuring out how I want to re-do my bedroom, I've been on the hunt for the perfect way to design an accent wall. I thought about painting it a different color, or using a stencil to paint a geometric pattern, but I just don't think I'm coordinated enough to do either of those.

Enter removable wallpaper.

I'm thinking of painting my room a soft grey and using either navy or yellow accents. I'm kind of obsessed with these rooms I found on Pinterest;

I just love the idea of removable wallpaper (it has to be easier to put up than regular wallpaper, right?) and I've found a bunch of really cute prints from Tempaper Designs. Now the hard part is which one is my favorite?

Taupe Stripe

Deep Blue Honeycomb

Grey and White "Zee"

Grey and White "Damsel"

Have you ever used "temporary" wallpaper?

What I'm Loving Wednesday!

This week, I am loving...

...this iPhone case that I ordered from Haymarket Designs last week! I came across it a few months ago but didn't want to shell out the cash just yet. Since I was still thinking about it (and the fact that I accidentally stumbled across it again on pay day...), I bit the bullet and ordered it. I cannot wait for it to arrive!

...that SUMMER starts on Friday! While I can't be in the sun for a while (thanks, weird skin), I am looking forward to longer days, eating meals outside, and the weather finally allowing me to run outside (if the rain ever stops...)

...this dress that I just bought. The back has a huge bow to hold the halter up. I am SO excited to find somewhere to wear it!!

...the newfound inspiration I have to completely overhaul my bedroom. I'm talking I want fresh paint, bedding, and obviously a new furniture set up. I'm even considering temporary/removable wallpaper as an accent wall -- does anyone know of a reliable place to look for it!?

Navy Peyton Duvet

Swirly Paisley Duvet

Ikat Medallion Duvet

...these duvet covers from PB Teen. I just can't get enough (or decide which one I want)! And, forget about deciding on sheets -- there are entirely too many choices!

From My Kitchen...

From Our Kitchen To Yours

I am thrilled to be linking up with Charlotte and Whitney to share some of our favorite recipes!
This week, inspired by my family's tailgate this weekend, I wanted to share with y'all my favorite Buffalo Chicken Dip. This stuff is seriously amazing, and freakishly easy. It is beyond perfect for sporting events, tailgates, or even just a snack.

Preheat oven to 350º.
Mix softened cream cheese with ranch dressing and buffalo sauce, and layer on bottom of 8"x8" baking dish.
Layer chicken on top, and mix with cream cheese mixture.
Sprinkle shredded cheese on top and bake until melted.
Let cool for 5 minutes, and serve warm.
My favorite things to dip in this are Special K Multi Grain Crackers! Other family favorites? Fritos, and tortilla chips!

What is your favorite tailgate recipe?
More importantly, go link up with Charlotte and Whitney to share!

Weekend Shenanigans!

Sami's Shenanigans

This weekend can be described in one word; shenanigans.

Friday I worked until late, and then headed home to get to bed for a full day of fun on Saturday. Mom and I started off with a mani/pedi and prepping food for our Rascal Flatts tailgate.

On the menu? Deviled eggs (that we forgot to make... whoops), Buffalo Chicken Bites, Pepperoni Rolls and S'mores cookies.

After solving the dilemma on what to wear (finally decided on this top and these shorts), we loaded up the car and headed to Hartford. The sun was shining, we scored a tailgate spot pretty close to the venue, and the food was delicious! What could be better?

Cassadee Pope opened the show, followed by The Band Perry, and finally Rascal Flatts took the stage. I have been waiting 7 years to see these guys in concert and I was not going to let anything ruin that night! I even tweeted and my tweet showed up on the big screen next to the stage (now I'm obviously famous)! They played all of their hits, and it was just perfect. Mom and I even cried during their rendition of "I Wont Let Go." It was a real cute bonding moment.

We didn't get home from the show until after 1:30am and I hit my bed hard. I slept straight through until 11am when I got up and picked up breakfast for the family for Father's Day. We watched the U.S. Open, laughed, and ate a big dinner. It was early to bed since I was still super exhausted, and I knew I had a long week ahead of me.

What did YOU do this weekend?

Let's Tailgate!

After four years of football seasons at the greatest university in the world, I've learned a thing or two about tailgating essentials. While the drink of choice may have varied with the weather, the consistency of the food and atmosphere remained the same.

My family is headed to see Rascal Flatts this weekend in concert, and Mom and I have been working hard to ensure that we've got all of our tailgate favorites loaded up and ready to go!

iPod Speakers || Loaded up with country music, our iPod speakers are usually one of the first items in the car. We always make sure that we either have an electric outlet adapter in the car, or tons of extra batteries so that we can listen to music for hours before it dies! There are so many companies that offer these portable speakers now, and are easy to find and totally affordable! Find them here (as pictured), here, and here!

Red Solo Cups || "I fill you up..." Toby Keith, anyone? We always stock up on these babies, especially when we're tailgating for concerts where alcohol may not be allowed in all areas or near the roads. Disguising your drink in one of these makes for easy disposal, and also let's you have one last drink as you are walking to the venue.

Koozies || If you're a beer drinker like my Daddy, Koozies are essential to keep those drinky drinks cold in the summer heat (and I WISH that I had found this one earlier so I could have ordered it before now). We have SO many in our house, and always bring a variety just in case!

Sweatshirt || Sometimes it gets super chilly as the sun goes down, and having a soft fleecy sweater is the best solution! Obviously I bring my VT sweatshirt wherever I go, but some others that have made appearances are from Vineyard Vines, Lilly Pulitzer, and Patagonia.

Beach Blanket || We never really know where we may park to tailgate at the venue we will be at this weekend. Sometimes we're in a field, sometimes a parking lot, sometimes in some random business. It all depends. We always are sure to have some beach blankets in the car so that we can spread those out and have instant seating. They also come in handy if it is a bit chilly, but mostly they are ideal for extra seating!

My Life, Currently...

This week seems to be flying by! Inspired by Preppylove's post yesterday, here is a list of my current faves!

Current Book: Most Talkative by Andy Cohen -- I'm obsessed. His writing style is just as hilarious as WWHL, and I can't put it down!

Current Nail Polish: Pansy by Essie -- it is the perfect color for summer!

Current Outfit: Callahan Shorts have officially become a staple in my daily wardrobe. YAY for being able to wear them to work! Bonus points for these because they glow in the dark!

Current TV Show: The Bachelorette. I haven't gotten around to watching the season premiere of Pretty Little Liars yet, but I'm sure that would have made the list! Speaking of The Bachelorette, if you haven't read Mason's recaps of the show yet, you're totally missing out!

Current Playlist: ALL Rascal Flatts. Getting excited to see them in concert this weekend!

Current Love: Our new foster pup, Rusty!

What I'm Loving Wednesday!

This week, I am loving...

...The new Coursera course that I signed up for: An Introduction to Global Health! It doesn't start until September, but I'm trying to check some of the things off of my "25 in 25 list."

...Our new foster pup, Rusty! He is so sweet and cuddly -- I'm already falling in love with him!

..that I somehow missed that Dance Moms was back for a summer season. Now, I have a couple of episodes to catch up on on my next day off! Jackpot!

...this print that I ordered from RueLaLa a few days ago! I can't wait to receive it -- It is too perfect for my life!

...these beach houses. I'm dreaming of sand between my toes, bathing suits all day long, and not a care in the world. Only have to wait a month and a half before I'll be doing just that!

What are YOU loving today? Be sure to head over to Jaime's blog and link-up!

Currently Obsessed: Dogeared Jewelry

For Christmas this year, my Mom got me the most simple, easy necklace ever.
I think I have worn this everyday since then because it is absolutely perfect for everything. It is small, silver, and the pearl is appropriate for any outfit. After browsing the Dogeared website recently, I found some more necklaces that would make perfect additions to this necklace stack.

And these necklaces make the perfect gift too. With so many graduations coming up, wouldn't one of these necklaces be the perfect gift?

Blisters, Sunburn, and Delicious Food.

I didn't mean to wait until Thursday to post my trip recap, but getting back into the groove of things after a weekend away has proved to be much more difficult than I thought. While I had a fabulous time in DC this weekend, I am certainly still exhausted and am looking forward to having today off!

Friday morning we set off for NYC! We hopped on a commuter train and made our way to Penn Station to catch our Amtrak train to DC. I had never traveled via Amtrak before and have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised. While Penn Station isn't the nicest of facilities, the train was a whole different story. The wide seats were MUCH more comfortable than any airline I've ever flown on, and the free wifi and multiple outlets at each seat made this trip more than bearable. The 3 1/2 ride flew by, and before I knew it, we were meeting my little (sorority) sister at Union Station. Thankfully, she was there to walk us through using the Metro, and getting us to our hotel (we stayed at the Crowne Plaza (Hamilton Hotel) which was absolutely amazing!!). We checked in and didn't waste a minute before heading out to sight see.

Before dinner on Friday we stopped by the White House;

And Ford's Theatre;

And finally met up with other friends at Matchbox in Chinatown. We ordered fruity cocktails and spent a few hours catching up and enjoying each other's company with delicious pizza. I had a yummy chicken pesto and mozzarella pizza which I still cannot stop thinking about. Being from New York I consider myself quite the pizza snob -- and this far surpassed anything I've ever had!

We stopped for ice cream before heading back to our hotel. We knew that we needed to get a good night's sleep since we had a full day ahead of us on Saturday.

That morning, we started off the day with iced coffee (thankfully there was a Starbucks conveniently located in our hotel lobby) and our first solo trip on the Metro. From the station, over the course of the day, we walked 7.3 miles, and (after forgetting to put on the sunscreen I purchased the night before) I ended the day with sunburns and blisters ALL OVER my feet.

We started off at the Lincoln Memorial;

Headed to the World War II Memorial;

And over to the Jefferson Memorial, and then uptown to meet my (sorority) big sister for lunch! Our concierge had recommended a place called Wicked Waffle on I street. He had us hooked when he mentioned that all of the sandwiches were served on Belgian Waffles. Um, hello, that is amazing! I hadn't seen my big in f.o.r.e.v.e.r (like 3ish years), and it was beyond fabulous to catch up! The three of us then walked to the Air and Space Museum to wander around there for a while. We were all exhausted, hot, and sunburnt (well, I was), so after only about an hour we called it a day.

(You can start to see the redness of my sunburn. What you can't see, is the burn where my cross body bag was. It's a real cute burn line now...)

We were exhausted, and really just needed a nap here...

P and I headed back to our hotel for a much needed nap before dinner. I of course also needed a shower and some aloe. Later that evening we headed to DuPont Circle for dinner at Front Page Grille. The five of us had a great time eating, drinking, and enjoying the awesome throwback 90's music that played over the speakers. The food and drinks were both very reasonable (especially for a restaurant in a big city) and the atmosphere was great.

I love just these girls!!!

We went to another bar, and by 1:30 I was exhausted. P and I walked my little to the Metro and then passed out. I don't think my head had hit the pillow before I was asleep. When I woke up on Sunday morning, I was sunburnt, my feet were blistered, and I was just kind of cranky. I'm sure P can attest to the fact that I wasn't super pleasant all day, but I still did have a great day with him.

We started off going to brunch at The Tombs in Georgetown. I don't think that I was ready for the long walk, the humidity, or the hills, but doing all that walking certainly left me feeling better about my decision to have Eggs Benedict for my meal. Since it was raining when we were finished, we took a cab to the Zoo and wandered around for a few hours before realizing that I was tired and cranky and needed a nap. The weather wasn't cooperating too much, so I don't think either one of us was too upset to head back to the hotel and nap before dinner.

When we woke up from our naps, it was a total downpour out, and we sprinted through the rain to Maddy's Bar and Grille for a quick dinner. It was early to bed since we had an early Amtrak train on Monday morning. We got back to the city and jumped on a train back to my house so that I could make it to work on time.

The weekend was utterly fabulous, and I definitely would love to go back and visit soon!
